Content Creation Process

Every writing project starts with an idea. It’s generally somewhat loose and unformed at the beginning, but as long you have an idea, our writers can craft content for you.

It helps if you have keywords for the project thought about, along with vague ideas on the length and format you want your content it – e.g. article, ebook, training program, etc. But if you don’t have these, don’t worry. Our writers are skilled enough to write compelling, readable, and search engine friendly content from scratch on your choice of topic(s). We generally follow these steps below to craft your content – but as every request is unique, we can also be very flexible on our approach. Our formula works extremely well!

Step #1 – Concept – All content starts with a concept. The concept may change as content gets developed, but it provides a goal and direction at the start, allowing content creation to progress.

Step #2 – Working Title – Your content needs to tell a story that flows well from beginning to end. The concept is progressed into a rough logical progression of thought – i.e. the main supporting topics or areas that would likely need to be considered when telling your story. Once we have produced a list of supporting topics and areas, we give the content artefact a “working title”.

Step #3 – Outline – We then start to develop a cohesive outline for the content. We look at each of the main topics to be considered, and work out what length of content, tone of voice, and ordering of content we need to provide good coverage. Sometimes the ordering changes throughout the process. The end result is our Outline for the intended content.

Step #4 – Research and Writing – We do a lot of research (including keyword research) to transition between outlining and writing. During that transition period, our writers will bounce between researching and outlining and writing. We take our Outline, then refine any ideas, and then initially do some rough writing to see how the story for the content will best hang together.

This is when the true magic happens. Our writers then spend minutes to hours hand crafting every piece of content, taking into account the concept, the title and outline agreed upon, the topic research undertaken, and the keywords that should be prominent for search engine visibility. Quick reviews are undertaken to catch any obvious mistakes and to compare the end content against the intended approach. Sometimes introductions need to be rewritten for example once other content is prepared. Fine editing is done later.

Step #5 – Review – Peer review is a good way to catch any rough spots, and to help identify any gaps where more content is needed, or to consolidate ideas where content has been repetitive. During this step, sentences, sections, paragraphs and general grammar may be changed. Normally our peer reviews are carried out by fellow writers, but as the client you too have the chance to be involved with this process if you wish. Our aim is client satisfaction for all content after all!

Step #6 – Final Editing – The last step in our process is final editing. We consider any review feedback, and aim to eliminate any awkward phases, unclear references, or grammatical mistakes made. Once final edits are completed, a review of the content against the artefact title is undertaken. The title must still capture the essence of the piece, and entice readers to click through.
